I created these pieces in Pretoria and Johannesburg, during a period of almost 5 years. The common thread in all paintings is volume and texture. They all have either additions or extractions, and filing material mixed into the acrylic paint. Each time I just confronted the empty canvas, looked which materials were available, and followed the inspiration of the moment. For the ceramic pieces I used a similar unstructured approach. I just allowed my mind and hands to move under the influence of Africa.
